Keto bacon, cheddar and chive scones are an incredible way to start your day. Serve to your family with your favorite style of eggs piled on top. They can also be a wonderful addition to brunch, served with your favorite soup or salad. These savory scones are quick and easy to make and will keep you satisfied for hours!
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, in my recipe post about keto clementine scones, I’ve been hard at work to bring you more scone recipes.
I have been making two batches every week and yes, I am sharing!
Keto Scones
Typical scones, made with real flour, are all too often WAY TOO DRY. Our keto scone recipes have a wonderful balance of ingredients to give you a pleasant mouthfeel and alleviate any feelings of being parched.
What you will need:
- 165 grams or 1 1/2 cup fine ground almond flour (plus more for dusting)
- 20 grams or 3 tablespoons of flax seed meal
- 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon monkfruit sweetener
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/3 cup real bacon bits (I use Hormel)
- 2/3 cup sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 TBL chives or 1/3 cup green onions, sliced thin (stems only)
- 75 grams butter or 5 1/2 tablespoons, room temperature
- 3 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 large egg
- parchment paper or silicone mat
- baking pan
- knife or bench scraper
- mixing bowl
Measuring versus Weighing
Sometimes it may feel like a hassle to weigh product out but it is so crucial to the outcome of the product, especially when baking.
I try to record both measurements in my recipes because I know some people don’t have a scale and feel like it is a hassle to use one.
It is actually so much quicker and easier to weigh most products out in grams.
Just to give you an example of how important it is to weigh products when you are baking, this past week, twice I measured out 135 grams of almond flour for two separate recipes.
The first time I measured out 135 grams of almond flour in a measuring cup, the result was one cup plus two tablespoons. The second time I measured out 135 grams, the result was 1 ¼ cup.
Those differences in just ONE ingredient alone make a huge difference in the outcome of a final product.
Imagine if the recipe called for four times that amount, the end result would be a half of a cup difference for a single recipe ingredient.
Keto Bacon, Cheddar and Chive Scone Nutrition
We all have a tendency to eat whatever is on our plate so we like to make things a little smaller around here. These scones can be cut into eight or six pieces. If cutting into 8 pieces, each scone will approximately contain 315 calories, 22.5 grams of fat, 2.4 grams of net carbs and 9.5 grams of protein. If cutting into 6 pieces, each scone will approximately contain 420 calories, 30 grams of fat, 3.2 grams of net carbs and 12.6 grams of protein.
These numbers are based on the the products we used and the use of chives instead of green onions.
How to make Keto Bacon, Cheddar and Chive Scones
Weigh (highly recommended😊) or measure almond flour and flax seed meal and place in a large bowl. Add to the flours the sweetener, salt, baking powder, cheese, bacon and chives.
In a separate bowl melt butter, allow to cool and add to the dry ingredients. Mix the heavy cream and egg together.
Combine the egg mixture with the dry ingredients and combine well.
Set the oven to 350 degrees.
Place a piece of parchment paper on a half sheet pan. Lightly dust the surface with almond flour. Gather the dough together and form a flat disc shape using your hands.
Place the dough on the surface with almond flour and gently press downward and outward until the dough is about one inch thick. Cut in half vertically, horizontally and diagonally both directions, creating eight sections.
Place each section on the pan, separated from one another. Bake 14-16 minutes or until they start to turn light golden brown.
Will last refrigerated, in a sealed container for up to six days.

These babies are going in the oven right now!!! Can’t wait to bite into one!!!
Barbara
They are one of my favorite fast and easy breakfast recipes!
Claire
Hi. Could you point me to the nutritional info please? I’d love to make these but don’t want to blow my 20g Carb allowance too quickly.
Barbara
Hi Claire, my apologies there is no nutritional information provided as I have not found a system out there I am happy with using but I am always happy to do the math for you! Each scone contains approximately 2.5 grams of TOTAL NET CARBS. If you calculate NET CARBS in your diet, total net carbs minus fiber and sugar alcohols, the net carbs per scone would be approximately 1.7.

Hi there! Just wondering, Can I omit the heavy cream or can I use coconut cream instead?
Barbara Cantrell
Although I haven’t tried it, I am sure you can substitute coconut cream for heavy cream that will result in moderate a change in texture and significant change in the taste.
Vylan Tran
Thanks Barbara! I ended up finding some sour cream in the fridge, used that and it turned out great.

Oops I meant to say Greek yogurt! My brain is a big foggy this week with the Retrograde 🙂 Anyone else?
Barbara Cantrell
Haha, my brain is always in a fog any more. Greek yogurt sounds like an even better substitute. I often incorporate it into my baked goods.
Barbara Cantrell
Sour cream sounds like a much better substitution. So happy to hear they turned out! Happy cooking 😊
