START YOUR OWN BLOG IN 3 SIMPLE STEPS

by Leave a Comment

Do you want to start your own blog but don’t know where to start? It is as simple as 1-2-3 and will take a short fifteen minutes to start your very own place in this world.

Starting a blog can seem like a scary step to take, I know! So many questions about where to start, not knowing what platform to use, or whether or not to self-host. Do not stress any more, I am here to help.

Creating your own site is super simple. The hardest part is actually deciding on a domain name that is available. Pretty easy, right?

This post contains affiliate links and at no cost to you, I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on those links. All opinions are my own.

Start Your Blog for the Right Reasons

Whatever type of blog you may want to start, tech, photography, decorating, fashion, or food make sure you are doing it for the right reasons. Do it because you are passionate and motivated to share your knowledge about your chosen topic. Blogging can be hard work but it is more rewarding than you can imagine.

If you want to be a serious blogger and turn it in to a business, self-hosting is the way to go. You have unlimited access to monetizing your blog. Free blogging platforms limit or prohibit monetization of blogs.

Start Your Blog

  1. Choose a Domain Name. Try to keep your domain name relevant, “short and sweet” and don’t use words that are difficult to spell. You can find if your domain name is available by going to bluehost.com

2. Register your Domain Name and Web Hosting. Bluehost is rated #1 in web hosting for small businesses and provides 24/7 support.

3. Set up a content management system. WordPress is the world’s most popular blogging platform. With Bluehost, WordPress is a one-click option. This is where your blog “lives” and is where you will build your content. Use this link here to get 3 months free off of your first year subscription. WP Engine - Get 3 months free on annual plans.

That’s it! You’re all set! Easy as Pie! Now you can start filling your posts and pages with content.

Advanced Options

Once you get going you may want to choose a hard foundation and theme.

I use the Genesis Framework from Studiopress with the Foodie Pro Theme. Genesis allows you to build with multiple columns, gives you multiple color options, allows you to customize your header, is mobile responsive, and so much more. Regardless of whether your blog will be geared toward food or not, Genesis is a solid choice for any niche.
