Making Your Own Lilac Infused Sweetener
Infusing sweetener with fresh lilacs will provide a soft floral flavor. We are going to use a 3:1 ratio. Three parts sweetener to one part lilac petals.
Ingredients you will need for this recipe:
Fresh lilacs
Sweetener (Your favorite one to bake with) My favorite is Swerve confectioners.
To infuse your favorite sweetener with fresh lilacs, firstly make sure the flowers are not sprayed with pesticides or chemicals and are free of any bugs. If they do have a few bugs, give them a good shake to free them of the blossoms. Cut the fresh blooms away from the stems because incorporating any part of the stems will add an unwanted bitterness.
If using store bought flowers be sure to inquire from the florist whether or not the flowers have been sprayed.
Sift the sweetener first if it has retained any moisture and contains clumps. Measure and pour the sweetener into a glass jar. Add the lilac petals to the jar, seal it up and give it a good shake. The lilac petals contain moisture, so give the container a shake every day to help prohibit the accumulation of clumps forming.
After six to seven days, sift the lilac petals out of the sweetener and place in a clean and dry glass jar.
You can use your favorite infused sweeteners to make just about anything. Add them to your icings, cocktails or mocktails, baked goods, sprinkle on top of cookies and give them as a heart-warming gift. Use your imagination and let me know what you did with your infused sugar!
