We always make our own pumpkin spice blend here at the Hunger for Spice home because store bought brands can be ridiculously expensive and there’s no need to spend a fortune when you have all of the ingredients you need right at your fingertips.
When the autumn season rolls around, admittedly we go through a lot of this aromatic blend of spices. Having a half-pint ready to make, cookies, cakes, pies, cheesecakes, pastries, and more is a MUST!
You can use pumpkin spice blend to flavor a variety of baked goods, such as our pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin scones, and pumpkin spice morning buns.
What you will need:
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Ginger
- Clove
- Allspice             Â
- Mace(optional)
- Jar/Glass Container
What is Mace
Mace may not be a spice that everyone has on hand. If you don’t have it stocked on your shelves, it is perfectly okay to omit it and still end up with a delicious pumpkin spice blend.
Mace a is a made from the web-like outer membrane of the nutmeg. It is a warm pungent spice with floral and citrus notes.
Nutmeg is found inside of the ripe fruit of the tropical evergreen tree known as Myristica fragrans.
How to Make Pumpkin Spice Blend
Measure out all of the spices and place into a half-pint jar or other glass container with a tight fitting lid. Shake the spices together and viola, it is ready to use or store in a cool dark space for up to 3 years.
